Summer Morning on the Red Dock
Oil on vellum paper, 11 X 14, 2026

Summer Morning on the Red Dock reflects one of those moments when a familiar place suddenly feels uncertain and alive with change. As the breeze strengthened, the surface of Lake Kalamazoo began to stir and the red umbrellas fluttered in the wind, while the complementary colors of the sky created a sense of tension, movement, and transition—as though the whole scene were momentarily suspended between what had been and what was about to come.

I was drawn to that sense of uncertainty because it felt familiar in a larger way—the tension we sometimes feel when we do not know what is coming, mixed with the excitement of knowing that something is beginning to change.
