Ox-Bow Lake Summer
17 X 11 inches, oil on vellum paper, 2025 (Sold)
This painting was made on a hot, humid day near the Ox-Bow lagoon as a distant storm moved north. The shifting clouds, dense background trees, and subtle movement in the water convey an atmosphere charged with heat and instability. These fluid, animated elements are deliberately set in opposition to the stark, linear birch trunks in the foreground. The resulting tension captures a polarity between motion and stillness, vitality and depletion, that defines the emotional core of the scene.
