The Last Warmth of Autumn, Pier Cove
Oil on vellum paper, 14 X 11, 2026
The Last Warmth of Autumn, Pier Cove captures a late-season evening along Lake Michigan, when the warmth of the setting sun seems to linger against the approaching coolness of autumn. A narrow band of brilliant orange light stretches beneath the blue- violet clouds, while the rust-colored vegetation in the foreground echoes that final warmth.
I was drawn to the tension between warmth and coolness, light and shadow, and the sense that the season itself is in transition. For me, the painting reflects those fleeting moments when something beautiful seems especially vivid precisely because we know it is passing.
